Dental Prosthesis

What is Prosthesis?

This method, which is applied to replace the lost tooth, is produced specifically for the person. The purpose of the applied process is to capture the natural appearance and obtain an aesthetic appearance. It should also be easy to use. In the prosthesis method, the protection of the patient's healthy teeth is at the forefront. In order for the denture to look natural, tones suitable for other teeth are preferred. Thus, an aesthetic appearance and an aesthetic smile are obtained.

What are the types of prosthesis?

Fixed Dental Prosthesis

Fixed dental prostheses cannot be removed at the patient's own request, as they are a method applied by sticking them into the mouth. It is known that the fixed application is applied to people with less tooth loss. Moreover, in this method, prosthesis is produced using the patient's own tooth.

First of all, the existing tooth is reduced by cutting and rasping. Then, the patient's existing tooth is covered and the prosthesis is mounted. It is a method that takes 10 days and the patient has to go to the doctor several times. It is observed that chewing is more comfortable in fixed prostheses. It also makes a positive contribution to the person's speech and external appearance.

Zirconium is included in fixed dental prosthesis. In this coating method, aesthetics and durability come to the fore. However, it can be produced in the desired tone and light transmittance. It can be applied to teeth with enamel loss and to people who cannot use the orthodontic method. Laminate is a very thin coating applied to the front of the tooth. It is applied only to the front surface and ensures the elimination of color differences. If there is an existing gap, it also closes that gap.

Removable Denture

Removable dental prosthesis can be inserted and removed by patients. Although there are natural teeth, it is preferred when there is not enough support for fixed prosthesis. It is known that there are four different types. These include:

  1. Total Dentures: If the patient has no teeth in his mouth, this method is used. Upper and lower jaw is applied separately. However, it is supported by the existing bone structure. It is the method that is also known as dentures among the people. It may take a few weeks for a patient to get used to these prostheses.

  2. Partial Dentures: Another name is known as hooked dental prosthesis. As with the total prosthesis, it can be attached and removed by the patient himself. It is attached to the existing teeth with braces.

  3. Immediate Prosthesis: They are used as temporary prostheses used until permanent prostheses are attached. Its use is purely for aesthetic purposes.

  4. Implant supported Prosthesis: Prosthesis is placed on the implant, which acts as the root of the tooth. The implant applied here ensures that the prosthesis is firmly attached. It increases the patient's chewing function and speech function.
